IHG Merlin 2 usually refers to the IHG Merlin employee sign-in environment hosted at me2.ihgmerlin.com. Use the IHG-hosted login page, enter your assigned Merlin ID and complete the required second-factor authentication. This independent guide is not operated by or affiliated with IHG Hotels & Resorts.
Merlin access is intended for authorized IHG corporate workers, hotel colleagues, contractors and other approved users. It is separate from the public IHG One Rewards account used by hotel guests to manage stays and points.
What IHG Merlin 2 means
The number in “IHG Merlin 2” appears to come from the current me2.ihgmerlin.com address rather than the name of a separate consumer product. Search results may also display older Merlin addresses, copied login directories or unrelated pages that use the Merlin name.
Use the IHG-hosted sign-on result.
Do not use a page merely because its title contains “Merlin login.” Several third-party guides continue to describe outdated registration procedures, unsupported portal features or employee-rate rules without linking those claims to current IHG documentation. One prominent result, for example, says employees simply create a username and password, while IHG’s account-registration page says new hires can no longer begin self-registration without an emailed invite code.
IHG One Rewards is different. Its public sign-in page is for member benefits, reservations, points and account settings; it is not the Merlin workplace login.
How to reach the correct Merlin sign-in page
Open the IHG-hosted Merlin sign-on page shown in the search result cited here. The page provides a login control, a “Forgot password or username?” option and links related to requesting a network account or using an existing invite code.
A careful login sequence is:
- Open the IHG-hosted Merlin sign-on page.
- Enter the Merlin ID assigned to you.
- Continue with the password prompt.
- Complete the second-factor authentication request.
- Open only the applications your role permits.
Exact screens may vary by region, employment type and the authentication method configured for the account. IHG’s current support instructions show an Entrust flow with a Merlin ID, password and second factor.
Prioritize the domain name first. Skip third-party “login finder” pages, copied support numbers and pages that ask you to submit account details outside an IHG-controlled domain.
How new employees receive a Merlin account
New hires generally cannot create an IHG Network ID independently from a blank registration form. IHG says that, since September 17, 2023, the self-registration process requires an invite code sent by email.
The next step depends on the worker category:
| Worker category | IHG’s stated account route |
|---|---|
| Franchised hotel or international managed-hotel employee outside the US and UK | Ask the General Manager, IT Administrator or Deputy GM to begin the Network ID invitation |
| Corporate employee or managed-hotel employee in the US or UK | Network ID and temporary password are sent before the start date |
| Corporate contractor or vendor | The IHG corporate contact requests an ID through MyID |
These routes come from IHG’s network-account registration page. The franchised and international managed-hotel process may require a hotel code, job title and valid email address before the invitation can be initiated.
Do not repeatedly submit registration requests. Contact the manager or administrator responsible for your property first, especially when no invite code has arrived.
What to do if you forgot your password
IHG’s current network-account support page directs users to its Entrust password service. In the documented forgotten-password flow, the user enters a Merlin ID, selects “Password locked or forgotten,” completes second-factor authentication, chooses a compliant new password and tests it by signing in again.
That last test matters.
An older IHG hotel-colleague reset page warns that a new password may take up to one hour to synchronize across devices and platforms. Because the newer Entrust page does not repeat that timing for every account type, treat the one-hour period as a possible legacy or environment-specific delay rather than a universal promise.
Reset the password once, then test it on the main sign-in page. Avoid cycling through several new passwords during a suspected synchronization delay because repeated failed attempts can turn a password issue into an account lock.
Why a Merlin account becomes locked
IHG’s support documentation identifies separate locks for passwords and authenticators. Five incorrect password attempts can produce a locked-account error. Five incorrect authenticator challenges can also lock the authenticator.
For a password lock, IHG directs users to the Entrust service, where they can enter the user ID, choose “Password locked or forgotten?” and complete the configured second factor. The documented flow then reports that the account is unlocked and asks whether the password should also be reset.
An authenticator lock is handled differently. IHG says the authenticator should automatically unlock after 10 minutes; users who remain blocked after that period should contact Global Support for help removing and registering an authenticator again.
Wait before trying again. Repeatedly entering the same rejected challenge is the wrong move.
Disabled accounts after inactivity
A locked account and a disabled account are not the same problem.
IHG’s current support page says an account can be disabled after more than 180 days without a login. It instructs affected users to contact the helpdesk or ask a General Manager or hotel IT administrator whether the account can be re-enabled in MyID.
The page also documents the administrator path through MyID: open the menu, expand “Manage Access,” select “Manage AD Accounts,” locate the user and manage the IHG Corporate Directory entry. Those controls are for authorized administrators, not a workaround for employees who cannot sign in.
Some search snippets and older copies mention a 90-day inactivity period. The currently opened IHG support page states more than 180 days, so the current IHG-hosted instruction should take priority.
Merlin access and employee room benefits
Merlin access alone does not automatically make every employee-rate option appear.
IHG’s Employee Room Benefit Programme page says eligible employees need an IHG Rewards member number. If that number has already been linked to the Merlin ID, or a manager has activated the benefit through Loyalty Connect, the employee can proceed to the booking flow. Employees without a Merlin ID need manager validation of their Rewards number.
IHG also says employee-rate reservations must be booked online or through the mobile app rather than through the call center. Eligibility and identification requirements are governed by the IHG Employee Room Benefit Programme Policy, and availability can vary by property or region.
This distinction corrects a common search-result problem: some articles blend Merlin login, Rewards enrollment and discounted booking into one automatic process. IHG’s own page treats network access, Rewards linking, manager activation and booking as related but separate steps.
When to contact IHG support
Contact the relevant IHG support channel when you do not know your Merlin username, the second factor cannot be restored, the account remains disabled, or a completed password reset still does not permit access.
IHG’s hotel-colleague reset page says the self-service tool cannot be used when the username has been forgotten. The current network-support page also directs unresolved authenticator and disabled-account cases to Global Support or an authorized hotel administrator.
For Employee Room Benefit Programme questions, IHG currently lists Global Support and a self-service support case route on its employee-benefit page. Support contacts can differ by country, so verify the number or case link on the current IHG page rather than copying one from an old login article.
Frequently asked questions
Is IHG Merlin 2 the same as IHG One Rewards?
No. Merlin is an authorized workplace-access environment, while IHG One Rewards is the public member account used for reservations, points and member benefits.
Can I create a Merlin account myself?
Not from scratch. IHG says new hires need an emailed invite code before beginning self-registration. The manager, hotel administrator or corporate contact starts the process according to the worker’s location and employment category.
What if I forgot my Merlin username?
Contact IHG support. The hotel-colleague reset documentation says the self-service password tool cannot recover access when the username itself has been forgotten.
How many failed attempts lock the account?
IHG documents a lock after five incorrect password attempts. It also documents a separate authenticator lock after five failed authenticator challenges, so identify which prompt is rejecting the entry before choosing a recovery path.
How long does an authenticator lock last?
About 10 minutes, according to the current IHG support page. Contact Global Support if it does not clear.
Why does my new password fail in another IHG application?
An older IHG reset page says password synchronization across devices and platforms may take up to one hour. Confirm that the reset succeeded on the main login first, allow for a possible synchronization delay and avoid repeated guesses that could lock the account.
Can my manager restore a disabled Merlin account?
Possibly. IHG says a General Manager or hotel IT administrator may be able to re-enable an eligible account through MyID. Otherwise, the user must contact the helpdesk and follow the password-reset support route.
Does a Merlin ID automatically activate employee rates?
No. IHG says the employee’s Rewards number must also be linked or validated, and the manager may need to activate eligibility through Loyalty Connect. Book only after the appropriate rate appears through IHG’s website or app.
Use the IHG-hosted sign-on page first. If access fails, choose the recovery route that matches the actual condition: forgotten password, password lock, authenticator lock, missing username or disabled account.
