IHG Merlin 2 is the employee-facing Merlin environment found on IHG’s me2.ihgmerlin.com domain. Authorized colleagues use their assigned Merlin ID to reach workplace systems, while guests should use the separate IHG One Rewards account area.

This page is an independent guide and is not affiliated with IHG Hotels & Resorts. Do not enter workplace credentials into a third-party login directory, even when that page ranks above the IHG result.

What is IHG Merlin 2?

IHG Merlin is a workplace portal and authentication environment for eligible IHG corporate employees, hotel colleagues, contractors and other approved users. The “2” in the search term appears to reflect the me2 portion of the current IHG Merlin domain, rather than a separately advertised product called “Merlin 2.”

That distinction matters because search results mix several different destinations. A user may encounter the Merlin workplace portal, IHG One Rewards, Brand Central, procurement tools and unrelated login guides in the same search session. IHG’s public Rewards page is intended for hotel bookings, points and member-account activity. It does not replace an employee’s Merlin ID.

Use the workplace portal for workplace access.

The main job for a person searching “IHG Merlin 2” is usually simple: locate the current IHG-controlled sign-in route without confusing it with Rewards or an unofficial login page.

Finding the correct IHG Merlin login

The safest route is the sign-on flow reached through the IHG Merlin domain. Current IHG pages link back to the Merlin login and direct users to sign in with their Merlin ID, password and configured second-factor authentication.

Before entering anything, inspect the host name. An IHG-controlled Merlin page should use the ihgmerlin.com domain or redirect into IHG’s authentication infrastructure. The presence of an IHG logo alone proves little; copied login pages can imitate branding.

A normal access attempt follows this pattern:

  1. Open the IHG Merlin sign-in route.
  2. Enter the assigned Merlin ID.
  3. Continue with the account password.
  4. Complete the second-factor challenge.
  5. Open an application available to your role.

The available applications are not identical for every employee. Access can depend on the property, job function, employment category and permissions approved for the account.

Do this first: verify the domain. Skip cached login links, browser ads and third-party pages that offer to “find” your account.

New employee account registration

New employees should not assume they can create a Merlin identity through an open public registration form.

IHG’s account-registration page says new hires need an invitation code delivered by email before they can begin the self-registration process. It also explains that the person responsible for starting the request differs by employee type.

For employees at franchised hotels, or at certain managed hotels outside the United States and United Kingdom, the General Manager, IT administrator or Deputy General Manager may need to initiate the Network ID invitation. Corporate employees and managed-hotel employees in the US or UK are told that a Network ID and temporary password will be sent before their start date. A contractor or vendor generally needs an IHG corporate contact to request access through MyID.

The invitation process may ask the authorized manager to associate the request with the correct hotel and role. Those details affect application permissions later, so choosing a vaguely similar job title is not a useful shortcut.

No invitation email? Ask the manager who initiated the account request. Repeatedly opening the registration page will not generate a missing invitation.

Forgotten Merlin password

IHG’s current Network Account Support page directs users with a forgotten password to the Entrust account-recovery process. The documented flow begins by entering the Merlin ID and selecting “Password locked or forgotten.” The user then completes the registered second-factor method, creates a new password and tests it by signing in again.

Testing the new password immediately on the primary sign-in route helps separate two problems:

  • The reset itself did not complete.
  • The reset worked, but another application has not accepted the change yet.

Older IHG hotel-reset documentation warns that password changes can require time to synchronize across platforms. That wording is not displayed consistently on every current support page, so employees should treat any stated synchronization period as environment-specific rather than guaranteed for all accounts.

Reset once. Then test carefully.

Creating several new passwords in rapid succession makes troubleshooting harder and may trigger a lock after repeated failed attempts.

Locked password versus locked authenticator

IHG distinguishes between a password lock and an authenticator lock. These conditions can look similar to the user because both interrupt sign-in, but the recovery steps differ.

The current support documentation says five incorrect password attempts can lock an account. The user can enter the Merlin ID in the recovery service, select “Password locked or forgotten?” and complete the required second-factor check. The recovery flow may then offer to unlock the account and reset the password.

Five failed authenticator challenges can lock the authenticator separately. IHG says this type of lock should clear automatically after approximately 10 minutes. A user who remains blocked may need Global Support to remove or re-register the authenticator.

Pause after an authenticator error. Do not keep approving, rejecting or re-entering the same challenge while the authenticator is locked.

A practical diagnosis looks like this:

What happensLikely issueBest next action
Password is rejected before the second factor appearsPassword problem or password lockUse “Password locked or forgotten?”
Password works, but authentication challenges failAuthenticator issueStop retrying and allow the lock period to pass
Username is unknownUsername recovery is requiredContact the support desk
The account has not been used for monthsAccount may be disabledAsk support or an authorized administrator to review it

These are recovery categories, not a promise that every error message will use identical wording.

Disabled Merlin accounts

A disabled account is not fixed in the same way as a temporary lock.

IHG’s current Network Account Support page says an account may be disabled after more than 180 days without a login. It directs affected users to the helpdesk or to a General Manager or hotel IT administrator who may be able to review and re-enable the account through MyID.

Some older third-party pages refer to shorter inactivity windows. Those claims should not override the currently published IHG support page.

Authorized administrators may see account-management controls that ordinary users cannot access. IHG’s documentation refers to MyID and the “Manage AD Accounts” area for administrative handling of directory accounts. An employee should not attempt to imitate that process using another person’s session or permissions.

Contact the administrator responsible for your property first. Skip another password reset when the account is explicitly shown as disabled.

Forgotten Merlin username

A password-reset tool cannot help when the user does not know the Merlin ID.

IHG’s hotel reset documentation states that users who have forgotten their username must contact the IHG Service Desk for assistance. The Network Account Support page gives the same general direction for cases that cannot be completed through self-service.

Avoid guessing variations of a name or email address. Several failed guesses may lock the wrong account or complicate the support case.

When contacting the approved support channel, follow the verification steps provided by IHG or the employer. Never send account passwords or authentication codes in an unsolicited message.

Merlin and IHG employee room benefits

A Merlin login and an employee room benefit are connected, but they are not the same thing.

IHG’s Employee Room Benefit Programme page says an eligible employee may be ready to access the benefit after an IHG Rewards number has been linked to the Merlin ID or after a manager has activated the benefit through Loyalty Connect.

This means a successful Merlin login does not guarantee that an employee rate will immediately appear. The employee may need:

  • An active workplace identity
  • An IHG Rewards membership
  • The Rewards number linked to the workplace profile
  • Manager validation or activation where required
  • A qualifying rate available for the selected property and dates

IHG directs employee-benefit bookings to its online channels and provides programme guidance through its employee page. Rate availability and eligibility may vary by property, country and employment arrangement.

Resolve account access before troubleshooting a missing employee rate. Mixing the two cases often leads people to reset a working password when the actual issue is benefit activation.

Common Merlin login mistakes

The first mistake is using IHG One Rewards credentials on the Merlin page. Rewards credentials belong to the public loyalty account, while Merlin uses an assigned workplace identity.

The second is repeatedly retrying after an authenticator lock. IHG documents a short automatic unlock period for the authenticator, so immediate repeated attempts are unlikely to help.

A third friction appears when a new employee has not received the account invitation. The correct response is to contact the manager or administrator who starts Network ID registration, not to search for a public sign-up page.

One more: old bookmarks. A bookmarked application can fail even though the main Merlin sign-in remains available. Start from the IHG-controlled portal rather than forcing an outdated application URL.

Frequently asked questions

Is IHG Merlin 2 an official portal name?

IHG publicly uses Merlin and hosts it on the me2.ihgmerlin.com domain. “IHG Merlin 2” appears primarily as a user search phrase based on that address.

Can hotel guests log in to Merlin?

No. Guests use IHG One Rewards.

Can I register without an invitation code?

IHG says new hires need an emailed invite code to begin Network ID self-registration. The request normally starts with an authorized manager, hotel administrator or corporate contact.

Why am I not receiving the second-factor prompt?

The authenticator may not be registered correctly, may be locked after failed challenges or may no longer be available on the expected device. Use the official account-support route rather than repeatedly restarting the login.

How many failed password attempts cause a lock?

IHG’s support page states five incorrect attempts.

How long should I wait after an authenticator lock?

Approximately 10 minutes, based on IHG’s current support guidance. Contact the approved support channel if access does not return.

Can a hotel manager reactivate my account?

An authorized General Manager or hotel IT administrator may be able to review and re-enable an eligible account through MyID. Some cases must be handled by the helpdesk.

Why can I enter Merlin but not see an employee rate?

Your Rewards membership may not be linked, manager activation may still be required, or no qualifying rate may be available for the selected stay. Check the employee-benefit setup before changing a working Merlin password.

Open the IHG-controlled Merlin route, identify whether the failure involves the password, authenticator, username or account status, and use the recovery path assigned to that condition.
