Finding the Right IHG Merlin 2 Login and Recovery Path

IHG Merlin 2 generally refers to the IHG employee sign-on page hosted at me2.ihgmerlin.com. Employees with an active Network ID can use the IHG-controlled portal to sign in, while new colleagues may need an invitation before completing registration.

This is an independent guide and is not affiliated with IHG Hotels & Resorts. Account changes should be completed through IHG’s systems or an approved workplace support channel.

What “IHG Merlin 2” actually refers to

The current sign-on page identifies itself as IHG Merlin. The number in the search phrase appears to come from the me2 host name rather than from an officially named product called “Merlin 2.”

That naming difference can send employees down the wrong path. Search results for Merlin may also show the public IHG One Rewards login, old password-reset pages, training systems and unofficial employee-login guides.

IHG One Rewards is for member benefits, reservations, points and reward redemptions. It is not the workplace Network ID system used for Merlin access.

Use Merlin for work access. Use One Rewards for hotel membership activity.

Which Merlin page should you use?

IHG’s Merlin sign-on page currently offers four recognizable routes:

  • The main login control
  • “Forgot password or username?”
  • A link to request a network account
  • A link to complete self-registration

Those options are displayed on the IHG Merlin domain.

Check the web address before entering an assigned Merlin ID. An unofficial guide may reproduce IHG terminology or display familiar branding, but it cannot establish a Network ID or perform a legitimate account reset.

A normal employee path is:

  1. Open the IHG-hosted Merlin sign-on page.
  2. Enter the assigned Merlin ID.
  3. Continue with the current password.
  4. Complete the configured second-factor check.
  5. Open the workplace application needed for the employee’s role.

IHG’s current network-support documentation shows a sign-in sequence involving a Merlin ID, current password and second factor.

Exact application access varies. A valid login does not mean every employee receives identical systems, menus or permissions.

New employees: registration starts with an invitation

A newly hired colleague may reach Merlin and see a self-registration option, but that does not mean registration is open to anyone.

IHG’s registration page says the account-request process has changed. A new hire receives an invite code at the email address provided during the request, then uses the email link or the IHG login page to complete self-registration.

The starting route depends on the worker type.

For corporate employees and employees at IHG-managed hotels in the United States and United Kingdom, IHG says a Network ID and temporary password are sent before the start date. Corporate contractors and vendors are told to contact their IHG corporate representative, who can request a Network ID through MyID.

Other hotel colleagues may need a General Manager, IT administrator or another authorized property leader to initiate the invitation.

No invitation yet? Contact the person responsible for onboarding. Skip repeated attempts to use the self-registration link without a valid code.

Already have an invite code?

The invite-code option is for an account request that has already been created. It does not replace the request process.

IHG directs invited users to complete self-registration through the email invitation or the corresponding option on the login page.

Use the same email account that received the invitation unless the workplace administrator gives different instructions. If the link has expired or does not open correctly, return to the manager or administrator who initiated the request rather than creating a second identity.

This step is easy to misread. The code completes an existing request; it does not independently grant access to every Merlin application.

Forgot your Merlin password?

IHG’s current Network Account Support page documents recovery through Entrust. The user enters the Merlin ID, selects “Password locked or forgotten,” completes second-factor authentication and then saves a new password that meets the displayed requirements.

Use that route first.

An older IHG reset page directs corporate, managed and franchise hotel colleagues to mypassword.ihg.com. It instructs users to select a domain, enter the User ID and choose “Forgot Password.” The same page says a new password may take an hour to synchronize across devices and platforms.

The older and newer flows may not display the same screens because IHG has maintained different support documents and account environments over time. Follow the current page presented by the Merlin sign-on system or workplace support team.

After one successful reset, test the new password on the central login. Do not immediately reset it again merely because one connected application still rejects it.

What if you forgot the Merlin username?

Password recovery usually starts with a known Merlin ID. If the username itself is missing, IHG’s hotel reset documentation says the self-service tool cannot be used and the colleague must contact the IHG Service Desk.

Do not guess numerous versions of a name or email address. That can produce failed attempts without identifying the correct account.

The support request should focus on username recovery. Once the identity is confirmed through IHG’s approved process, the employee can address any separate password or authentication problem.

Identify where the login stops

“Merlin is not working” can describe several unrelated failures. The stage of the process usually points toward the correct response.

Where access stopsLikely problemPriority action
Merlin ID is unknownUsername recoveryContact the approved service desk
Password is rejectedForgotten password or password lockUse “Password locked or forgotten”
Second factor failsAuthenticator issueStop repeated attempts and use authentication support
Merlin opens but a tool is absentRole or permission issueContact the manager or application owner
An old saved page failsOutdated bookmarkStart again from the current Merlin page

IHG’s support material separates the password stage from the second-factor stage. A user who reaches the authenticator screen has progressed beyond the initial Merlin ID entry.

Reset the password when the password is the problem. Skip a password reset when sign-in succeeds and only one application remains unavailable.

Changing a known password

Employees who know the current password do not need to choose the forgotten-password route.

IHG’s Network Account Support instructions say the user can enter the Merlin ID, current password and second factor, then open “Authenticators.” From there, the menu on the Password row includes “Change Password.” The current and new passwords are entered before saving the change.

This distinction matters because a planned password change and an account recovery are different tasks.

Use “Change Password” when the existing credentials work. Use “Password locked or forgotten” when they do not.

A password change may not appear across every connected system at exactly the same moment. IHG’s older reset documentation warns of a possible synchronization period of up to one hour.

Merlin opens, but an application does not

A successful Merlin login confirms that the central identity worked at that moment. It does not confirm that every linked application is online or assigned to the user.

Permissions can depend on role, property, employment status and administrator approval. An employee may therefore see Merlin but not a particular training, reporting or hotel-management tool.

Start from the main portal instead of an old browser bookmark. Then determine whether the application is missing, displays an access message or fails after opening.

Those details matter. A missing application may indicate provisioning. An access-denied screen may point to permissions. A blank or unavailable page may involve the application itself.

Do not rebuild a functioning Network ID to fix a single missing tool.

Avoid confusing Merlin with One Rewards or One Pass

IHG One Rewards is the public loyalty account used to manage bookings, points and member benefits.

IHG One Pass is described by IHG as a travel-discount program for eligible colleagues, friends and family. It offers special rates, rewards and other travel-related perks.

Neither page replaces Merlin workplace authentication.

An employee may legitimately use all three services:

  • Merlin for work systems
  • One Rewards for membership and stays
  • One Pass for eligible colleague travel benefits

Each can have a different sign-in or activation process. Changing a One Rewards password will not normally repair a Merlin Network ID problem.

Two mistakes that delay recovery

The first is choosing the wrong recovery route. A forgotten username cannot be repaired by repeatedly opening a password-reset page that requires the username. IHG directs that case to its service desk.

The second is relying on an old support page as though it were current. Search results still expose a backup IHG network-support page dated 2023 in its file name, including regional telephone listings. Current contact information should be verified through the live IHG support environment before use.

Do the diagnosis first. Then use the current channel assigned to that problem.

Frequently asked questions

Is IHG Merlin 2 different from IHG Merlin?

Probably not. “Merlin 2” appears to refer to the me2.ihgmerlin.com host used by the IHG Merlin sign-on page.

Can anyone create a Merlin account?

No. Registration follows an employer-controlled Network ID process and may require an emailed invitation code.

Where do I reset a forgotten password?

Use the current Network Account Support route linked to the Merlin environment and select “Password locked or forgotten” after entering the Merlin ID.

What if I know my password but want to change it?

Sign in through the documented Entrust flow, open “Authenticators” and use “Change Password” from the Password row.

Can I reset the account without knowing my username?

The hotel reset instructions say no. Contact the IHG Service Desk for username assistance.

Why does the new password work in one place only?

A connected system may not have synchronized yet. An IHG reset page says synchronization can take up to one hour, although the timing and recovery interface can vary by account environment.

Is my One Rewards login also my Merlin login?

Not necessarily. One Rewards is a public membership and booking account, while Merlin is an employee Network ID environment.

Who starts access for an IHG contractor?

IHG tells corporate contractors and vendors to work with their IHG corporate contact, who can request a Network ID through MyID.

Begin with the current IHG Merlin page, note the exact stage where access fails and use the recovery path designed for that stage.
