IHG Merlin 2 generally refers to the IHG Merlin employee sign-on environment found on IHG’s me2.ihgmerlin.com domain. Existing users can sign in with an assigned Merlin ID, while new colleagues must follow the appropriate Network ID request and invitation process.
This independent guide is not affiliated with IHG Hotels & Resorts. Complete account registration, verification and recovery only through an IHG-controlled page or an employer-approved support channel.
What is IHG Merlin 2?
IHG’s sign-on page calls the service “IHG Merlin.” The word “2” appears to come from the me2 host used by the current portal rather than from a separately advertised product named Merlin 2.
Merlin serves workplace users. It is not the same account as IHG One Rewards, which IHG describes as its public program for managing bookings, earning points and redeeming rewards.
The difference matters immediately. Someone can sign in successfully to an IHG page and still reach the wrong destination. Seeing reservations, points or member offers means the user is probably in One Rewards rather than the employee Merlin environment.
Use the account tied to the task.
Where should an employee sign in?
Start from the current IHG Merlin sign-on result. The page provides the main login route, help for a forgotten password or username, a path to request a network account and a separate path to complete self-registration.
Before entering an assigned Merlin ID, inspect the domain. Search results include outdated walkthroughs, unofficial employee-login pages and articles that name old addresses or unsupported screen labels. One result reviewed for this article directs users to a different Merlin address and describes two simple username and password fields, while IHG’s current support material documents a multi-stage identity and second-factor flow.
A current sign-in attempt generally follows this path:
- Open the IHG-controlled Merlin page.
- Enter the assigned Merlin ID.
- Continue through the password stage.
- Complete the configured second-factor authentication.
- Open a workplace application assigned to the account.
IHG’s Network Account Support page specifically documents entering the Merlin ID, current password and second factor before login.
Check the domain first. Skip third-party pages that offer to collect or relay workplace credentials.
New employees need an account request first
The presence of a self-registration link does not mean anyone can create a Merlin account.
IHG says its network-account request process has changed. A new user receives an invite code at the email address supplied during the request and then completes self-registration through the invitation email or the IHG login page.
The route depends on the person’s relationship with IHG. Corporate employees and employees at IHG-managed hotels in the United States and United Kingdom are told that they will receive a Network ID and temporary password before their start date. Corporate contractors and vendors should work through their IHG corporate contact, who can request a Network ID through MyID.
For other hotel colleagues, an authorized property manager or IT administrator may need to initiate the invitation. The exact process can vary by region, ownership structure and worker category.
No invitation means pause. Contact the person responsible for onboarding rather than creating several parallel requests with different email addresses.
“Request an account” and “complete registration” are different
The current Merlin page separates the initial network-account request from the option to complete self-registration.
That separation reflects two stages:
| Stage | What it means |
|---|---|
| Request a network account | An authorized process begins creation of the workplace identity |
| Receive an invite code | IHG sends registration instructions for the initiated request |
| Complete self-registration | The invited person finishes setting up the identity |
| Sign in | The active user accesses permitted workplace services |
An invite code does not independently establish employment or assign every internal application. It continues a request that has already been initiated.
This is one area where older competing pages create confusion. A 2022 guide describes registration largely as entering a username and answering a security question, while IHG’s current registration page clearly describes an emailed invitation-code process.
Use the current IHG process first.
How to reset a forgotten Merlin password
IHG’s current Network Account Support page describes password recovery through an Entrust flow. The user enters the Merlin ID, selects “Password locked or forgotten,” completes the registered second factor and creates a new password that meets the displayed requirements.
This means successful self-service recovery depends on two things: knowing the Merlin ID and having access to the configured verification method.
A careful recovery sequence is:
- Open the current Network Account Support route.
- Enter the known Merlin ID.
- Select “Password locked or forgotten.”
- Complete second-factor authentication.
- Save the new password.
- Test it on the main Merlin sign-in page.
Do one reset first.
IHG also has an older password page that directs corporate, managed and franchise hotel colleagues to Password Central. That document says a replacement password may take up to one hour to synchronize across devices and platforms.
Because the current support page uses a different Entrust flow, treat the one-hour statement as a possible legacy or environment-specific delay, not a universal promise. If the new password works on the central sign-in but fails in one application, allow for synchronization or investigate that application before resetting the password again.
What if the Merlin username is forgotten?
A forgotten username is not the same problem as a forgotten password.
IHG’s franchise-hotel reset instructions state that someone who has forgotten the username cannot use the self-service tool and must contact the IHG Service Desk.
Guessing several possible usernames is a poor substitute. It can produce additional failed attempts without confirming the correct identity.
Recover the Merlin ID first. Then test the password and second-factor stages separately.
Password failure or authenticator failure?
The last successful screen helps identify the problem.
| Last stage reached | More likely issue | Better first action |
| Merlin ID is unknown | Username recovery | Contact approved support |
| Password is rejected | Forgotten password or password lock | Use account recovery |
| Password works, second factor fails | Authenticator issue | Stop repeated attempts and use authentication support |
| Merlin opens, one application fails | Permission or application issue | Contact the application owner |
| No invitation ever arrived | Provisioning issue | Ask the original requester |
IHG’s current instructions clearly place second-factor authentication after the Merlin ID and password steps.
So, if the user reaches the verification challenge, the password may already have been accepted. Resetting it again may not repair an unavailable or locked authenticator.
Diagnose the stage first. Skip broad account changes.
Changing a password that still works
A planned password change has its own documented path.
IHG says a user who knows the current password can sign in with the Merlin ID, password and second factor, open “Authenticators,” use the menu on the Password row and select “Change Password.” The current and replacement passwords are then entered before saving.
Use that route when the current password still works. Use “Password locked or forgotten” when it does not.
This distinction sounds minor, but it prevents employees from entering account recovery unnecessarily and helps preserve a working authentication session.
When Merlin opens but a tool does not
A successful central login does not guarantee access to every internal application.
The missing tool may depend on the employee’s property, role, employment status or approved permissions. It may also be under maintenance or reached through an old bookmark.
IHG maintains a Merlin maintenance page that can display an outage message and links to commonly used applications. The indexed result reviewed here is explicitly a backup maintenance page, so its presence in search should not be treated as proof of a current outage.
Use this order:
- Return to the current Merlin home page.
- Check whether the application is missing or fails after launch.
- Note the exact application name and visible error category.
- Ask the manager or application owner about role access.
- Avoid resetting a working Network ID solely because one tool is unavailable.
A central identity problem prevents sign-in. An application problem begins after sign-in.
Why unofficial Merlin guides can be risky
Several search results contain claims that do not match IHG’s current documentation.
One unofficial 2025 article suggests Merlin usernames resemble email addresses, refers to a dashboard invite-code request form and makes unsupported claims about shift-location tracking and employee marketplace discounts. Those details do not appear in the official sources reviewed for this guide.
Another result presents an older Merlin address as the current portal and describes a generic two-field login screen.
Generic advice is safer than invented precision. Employees should rely on the live IHG page for current field names, verification prompts and account routes.
Priority one is the official domain. Skip pages that add unsupported features or ask users to follow steps that no longer match IHG’s screens.
Frequently asked questions
Is IHG Merlin 2 different from IHG Merlin?
Probably not. The phrase appears to refer to IHG Merlin through its me2 host.
Can I use an IHG One Rewards account to enter Merlin?
No. One Rewards is the public account for bookings, points and member benefits. Merlin uses a workplace Network ID.
Can a new employee register without an invite code?
Not through the current process described by IHG. Registration follows an initiated account request and emailed invitation.
Where is the forgotten-password option?
Enter the Merlin ID through the current Network Account Support flow and select “Password locked or forgotten.”
What if I do not remember my username?
Contact the approved IHG Service Desk route. IHG’s reset instructions say self-service cannot be used when the username is unknown.
Why does my new password work in Merlin but not elsewhere?
An older IHG reset page says synchronization across devices and platforms may take up to one hour. Current environments can differ, so test the main sign-in and avoid immediately performing another reset.
How do I change a password I still know?
Sign in through the current account-support flow, open “Authenticators” and select “Change Password” from the Password row.
Does a working Merlin login guarantee access to every tool?
No. A user may authenticate successfully while lacking permission for a particular role-based application.
Begin with the current IHG Merlin page, identify the last stage that worked and use the recovery, provisioning or application-support route that matches that stage.
