IHG Merlin 2 usually refers to the employee sign-on environment hosted through IHG’s me2.ihgmerlin.com domain. Existing users can begin at the IHG Merlin sign-on page, while new employees may need a Network ID request and emailed invitation before registration can be completed.

This independent guide is not affiliated with IHG Hotels & Resorts. Use IHG-controlled pages or an employer-approved support route for registration, password recovery and account changes.

Is IHG Merlin 2 a separate product?

IHG labels the page IHG Merlin. The “2” in the search phrase appears to come from the me2 part of the web address, not from a separately documented product called “Merlin 2.”

This naming issue matters because the search results contain several IHG-related account systems. Employees may encounter Merlin, IHG One Rewards, Design Connect, recruitment pages or older password instructions during the same search.

IHG One Rewards is the public membership account used for bookings, points, rewards and member benefits. It is not presented as the employee Network ID environment.

Use Merlin for workplace access. Use One Rewards for guest and membership activity.

Choose the route that matches your account

The IHG Merlin page separates several actions:

  • Logging in with an existing account
  • Recovering a forgotten password or username
  • Requesting a network account
  • Completing self-registration

Those options are not interchangeable.

A new colleague waiting for an invitation should not begin with password recovery. An existing employee who knows the Merlin ID but cannot sign in does not need another account request. A user who can enter Merlin but cannot open one tool may have an application-access issue rather than an identity problem.

Start here:

Current situationAppropriate starting route

Password works, second factor failsAuthentication support

Diagnose first. Skip the blanket reset.

New employee without a Merlin ID

IHG says its network-account request process has changed. After the request is initiated, the employee receives an invite code at the email address supplied and completes self-registration through the invitation email or the IHG login page.

The person who initiates the request depends on the worker category.

Corporate employees and employees at IHG-managed hotels in the United States and United Kingdom are told that a Network ID and temporary password will be sent before their start date. Corporate contractors and vendors should contact their IHG corporate representative, who can request a Network ID through MyID.

For other hotel colleagues, an authorized property manager or IT administrator may need to begin the invitation. The precise route can vary by region and employment arrangement.

No invitation yet? Contact the person responsible for onboarding. Reopening the registration page will not create the missing request.

Avoid submitting several versions under different email addresses. Duplicate requests can make it harder to determine which invitation and identity are current.

What self-registration actually means

Self-registration is the completion stage, not open public enrollment.

The employee first needs an authorized account request. IHG then sends an invite code, and the employee follows the invitation or returns to the registration option on the IHG login page.

This corrects a recurring problem in older search results. One 2022 article describes Merlin registration mainly as signing up for the portal and answering account questions, but IHG’s current documentation places an emailed invitation before self-registration.

Complete the invitation process once. Then test the resulting identity at the main Merlin sign-on page.

A valid Network ID may still lack access to a particular application until the appropriate role or permission has been assigned. Registration creates the identity; it does not necessarily finish every application entitlement.

Forgotten or locked password

IHG’s current Network Account Support page documents recovery through an Entrust flow. The user enters the Merlin ID, selects “Password locked or forgotten,” completes second-factor authentication and creates a replacement password that meets the displayed requirements.

That recovery process depends on two things:

  1. The employee knows the Merlin ID.
  2. The employee can complete the registered second factor.

Use one clean recovery attempt. After saving the replacement password, test it at the main Merlin sign-on rather than immediately changing it again.

IHG also keeps an older Password Central page online. That document instructs colleagues to select a domain, enter the User ID and choose “Forgot Password.” It says a replacement password may take up to one hour to synchronize across devices and platforms.

The current Entrust instructions should take priority when that is the route shown by the live support page. The one-hour statement remains useful as a possible explanation for delayed application access, but it should not be treated as a universal timing promise.

Forgotten username

Username recovery comes before password recovery.

IHG’s franchise-hotel reset instructions state that someone who has forgotten the username cannot use the self-service tool and must contact the IHG Service Desk.

Do not guess several possible Merlin IDs. Repeated attempts may create additional failures without identifying the correct account.

Confirm the identity first. Once the Merlin ID is known, determine whether the remaining issue concerns the password, second factor or account status.

Small distinction. Large time saver.

Password accepted, second factor rejected

A user who reaches the second-factor screen has progressed farther than someone whose password is immediately rejected.

IHG’s current instructions place second-factor authentication after the Merlin ID and password during a normal sign-in. The same verification layer is used in the documented forgotten-password recovery process.

This means another password reset may be the wrong response when the password stage succeeded.

The registered authenticator may be unavailable, incorrectly configured or otherwise unable to complete the challenge. Stop repeated attempts and use the authentication-support route provided through the current IHG environment.

Support staff need the stage of failure, not a vague report that “Merlin is broken.” State whether the password was accepted and whether the second-factor screen appeared.

Merlin opens, but an application does not

A successful central sign-in suggests that the Network ID worked at that moment. The remaining problem may involve one application, an outdated bookmark or role-based access.

Use this sequence:

  1. Return to the main Merlin environment.
  2. Confirm that central sign-in still works.
  3. Open the application from the current portal rather than a saved link.
  4. Note whether the application is missing, unavailable or denying access.
  5. Contact the manager or application owner when a role or permission appears absent.

Do not reset a working password solely because one internal tool fails.

This is a major gap in many competing articles. One unofficial guide claims the Merlin page simply contains username and password fields at another address, while IHG’s current documentation shows a staged Merlin ID, password and second-factor process.

Generic login advice cannot fix application provisioning.

Changing a password you still know

IHG documents a separate process for a planned password change.

A user signs in with the Merlin ID, current password and second factor, opens “Authenticators,” uses the menu on the Password row and selects “Change Password.” The user then enters the current and new passwords and saves the change.

Use that route when the current password works.

Use “Password locked or forgotten” only when recovery is needed. Keeping those tasks separate avoids unnecessary recovery sessions and makes it easier to identify whether the new password has synchronized correctly.

Be careful with old support pages

An official domain does not guarantee that every indexed document is current.

Search results expose a backup Network Account Support page dated December 7, 2023 in its filename. It includes numerous regional support numbers. Search also surfaces a text copy of a support page dated October 27, 2020.

Those pages may preserve legitimate historical information, but they should not override the live support environment.

Use current routing first. Skip copied telephone lists and archived instructions unless the present IHG page directs you there.

This matters especially for regional support because numbers and responsibilities can change. The safe approach is to verify the contact through the active Merlin or employer support route.

Merlin and employee hotel benefits

Merlin access and employee room benefits are connected, but they are not identical.

IHG’s Employee Room Benefit Programme page states that a person without a Merlin ID may need a manager to validate the IHG Rewards member number.

That shows at least three separate elements can be involved:

  • The Merlin workplace identity
  • The IHG Rewards membership
  • Employee-benefit validation

A working Rewards account does not establish that Merlin is active. A working Merlin login does not guarantee that a particular employee rate is available for every property or date.

Fix the failing element. Skip password recovery when the actual issue is benefit validation or rate availability.

Frequently asked questions

Is IHG Merlin 2 the official name?

The page is labeled IHG Merlin. “Merlin 2” appears to refer to its me2 host.

Is Merlin the same as IHG One Rewards?

No. One Rewards handles bookings, points and member benefits.

Can a new employee register immediately?

Only after the appropriate account request has been initiated and an invitation has been received.

Where is the password-reset option?

Enter the Merlin ID through the current Network Account Support process and select “Password locked or forgotten.”

What if the Merlin ID is unknown?

Contact the approved support route. The IHG self-service instructions say the tool cannot be used when the username is forgotten.

Why might a new password fail in one application?

An older IHG reset page says synchronization across devices and platforms may take up to one hour. Current timing can vary, so test the central Merlin login before changing the password again.

Does successful login provide every internal tool?

No. A valid identity can sign in while an individual application remains unassigned or unavailable.

Should I use a telephone number from an old IHG page?

Verify it through the live support environment. Indexed IHG pages include backup and 2020 versions that may not reflect current routing.

Begin at the active IHG Merlin page, identify the last successful stage and route the case to registration, password recovery, authentication support or the individual application owner.
